Over the last couple of weeks on the forum, forum members have been voting in a range of categories for the best of 2011. Nominations were put forward on a separate thread the week before Christmas and people have been voting ever since. A quick disclaimer, that this was an open vote for everyone on the forum and only on items put forward. Votes stopped getting counted at twelve on the 31^st December and the results are in. Generation Lost’s award winners 2011 are as follows:

Best Album – Rise Against’s Endgame

Shock-horror, hold the presses, in a year when Rise Against released a new album to a strong response, a fan forum voted said album as best of the year. Whilst not being a surprise there is no doubt Endgame were a great album and a worthy winner. The King Blues’ superb Punk and Poetry and Banner Pilot’s Heart Beats Pacific claimed joint-second, but were well out-voted by Endgame. See how the voting played out here.

Best EP – Rise Against’s Face To Face Split

Featuring Rise covering Blind and Face to Face covering The Good Left Undone, the forum has spoken saying that this is their favourite EP of 2011. See how the voting played out here.

Best Song – Rise Against’s This Is Letting Go

Coming ahead of all the other Rise songs released this year This Is Letting Go is perhaps a surprised winner of best song. Second place was also taken by a Rise song in the form of the gripping Survivor Guilt. The highest ranking non-Rise song was Frank Turner’s I Still Believe, who knew something as simple as rock and roll could save us all.  See how the voting played out here.

Best Live Band – Rise Against

At this stage it is getting all a bit too predictable, but fair play, Rise are a fantastic live band and for anyone who hasn’t seen them live before, you really need to get on that. Despite some complaints about the setlist, 2011 was another great year to go see them. Against Me came second. See how the voting played out here.

Biggest WTF Moment – PukkelPop Festival Ends Due To Storms

The horrific event at PukkelPop shocked everyone, especially those on the forum that were there, just so sudden and grim, a very sad day. See how voting played out here.

That is the end of the end of the General awards and surprise, surprise it was a clean sweep for Rise Against in all the ones they could win. But well done, thanks for another fantastic year.  Now onto the much coveted forum awards:

Thread of the Year – THE MP3 ADVENT CALANDER

Started by Seantastic in the countdown to Christmas, everyday he put a link to a song(s) for people to download. A gesture worthy of the season, and the forum agreed. “It’s nice to see that people enjoyed it” he wrote once closing was closed. “Don’t You Mean Rage Against?” came a close second, a funny thread about how people are always getting Rise Against and the also great Rage Against The Machine confused. And Finally…. Member of the Year – Seantastic

Although the forum is full of awesome people who do so much to make it an brilliant community that people stay part of, when pushed for an answer as to who has been the member of the year, Seantastic won out in the poll vote. “Thanks everyone who voted, and yea, it doesn’t matter that much really, everyone one here is awesome….but it seems I’m the most awesome, lol, I kid, I really do.” See how the voting played out here.

That’s the awards for 2011 done. Who knows what 2012 will bring, with Rise almost certainly not releasing an album next year, who knows, someone else could get a look in.
